Public Buss
A direct public bus leaves from Mal Pais to San Jose at 6am and 2pm every day. Catch the bus at the crossroads (“el cruce”), a 5 minute taxi ride from Havana Lodge. The bus costs about $15 and takes 6.5 hours to reach San Jose. The bus stops first at the airport and then continues on to downtown San Jose. The same bus also goes from San Jose to Mal Pais every day at 6am and 2pm.

If you have a rental car and want to reach San Jose, Jaco, Dominical and locations further south, you must take a ferry from Paquera across the Gulf of Nicoya to Puntarenas. The ferry journey is about 90 minutes, and costs approximately $2 per passenger. The cost to take a car on the ferry is about $25.<br>
